The pundit takes blood pressure tablets after he was diagnosed with coronary heart disease when he was 38 and underwent a triple bypass before having a stent fitted 10 years later after an artery became blocked.
Souness is reportedly preparing to leave his role as a pundit on Sky Sports at the end of the season. The Athletic reported that the former Liverpool star, who usually signs three-year contracts, only put pen to paper on a one-year deal and will step back from his role at the end of the season.
He has regularly featured on coverage of top-flight, European and international games since 2006. He joined shortly after leaving Newcastle United, marking an end to a career in management which lasted 20 years.
As well as working for Sky, Souness has also worked for the likes of Rangers TV and ITV in recent years, working for the latter on their coverage of England vs Scotland at the 2020 European Championships last year.
