In more recent times the club have dealt with the explosive interview conducted by Cristiano Ronaldo last week. During the interview he publicly criticised the Glazers' running of the club and said that they "didn't care" about United.
Ronaldo's contract was ultimately terminated on Tuesday after the two parties came to a mutual agreement.
Recent rumours have suggested that any prospective would likely be looking a deal between £5bn and £9bn in order to convince them to sell and in turn, make it the most expensive sale of a sporting club of all time.
The Red Devils won't be short of interest either, with Sir Jim Radcliffe and Michael Knighton two of many to previously register their interest in the club.
United declined to comment when asked about the speculation.
