Calvert-Lewin missed a large portion of the season through injury

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has opened up on his recent struggles in a heartfelt message on Instagram, admitting that talking saved his life during an extremely difficult period.

The Everton forward missed a large chunk of the season through injury, making just 17 appearances in all competitions and scoring five goals.

Calvert-Lewin did return in time for the club’s end of season run-in and scored the all-important winner in a 3-2 win against Crystal Palace to secure survival for the Merseyside club.

Calvert-Lewin revealed his struggles in an emotional Instagram post

In an emotional post shared to his Instagram, Calvert-Lewin explained the emotions he had been feeling as he thanked the Everton support for getting behind the team.

“On a personal note I have had to dig deep within myself at times this season and have endured some of the most difficult times of my career and my life to date,” he said. “The love and support helped carry me through.

“One thing I learned this season is that everyone in whatever walk of life is fighting battles you know nothing about, and there is no shame in finding someone to talk to and being open and honest with yourself about how you really feel.”

‘To all the young kings suppressing emotion I advise you to talk’

The 25-year-old then offered advice to his followers, encouraging people to open up on their problems and how speaking to family members or friends can help.

He added: “To all the young kings suppressing emotion I advise you to talk, to a friend, family member or someone that will listen, talking saved my life.

“It will make you realise things are never as bad as they seem, and you’ll discover that the paradox of true strength is being able to face your weaknesses.”
