Diego Maradona is being treated for alcohol dependency after leaving hospital, it has been reported. Maradona, who recently turned 60, was in hospital for an operation, after a blood clot was discovered on his brain. The operation was successful, but now the Argentine has entered a recovery clinic for help with alcoholism. Maradona went under the knife earlier this month, but symptoms relating to alcohol withdrawal meant his hospital stay was extended. Last week, Diego Maradona was experiencing symptoms of alcohol withdrawal, being admitted to the Ipensa clinic in Buenos Aires with anaemia and dehydration. It later transpired that the Argentine football icon was suffering a subdural hematoma, requiring emergency surgery. Maradona was operated on immediately, with his personal physician Leopoldo Luque indicating the surgery had been completed successfully. Dr Luque said Maradona had "coped well with the surgery" and that everything was "under control". "Diego has gone through maybe the most difficult moment of his life and I think it was a miracle that they found this bleeding in his brain that could have cost him his life," Morla added. It is said that only a few close friends and family members will be able to visit the 60-year-old World Cup winner while he is in rehab. Maradona achieved iconic status in his homeland after leading Argentina to World Cup glory in Mexico in 1986. He has been the manager of Argentine Primera Division side Gimnasia y Esgrima since last year. His last public appearance came on his 60th birthday, when he was in attendance for Gimnasia's game with Patronato. Gimnasia fans gathered outside the hospital where Maradona was operated on and began singing his name when news of his successful surgery was announced.
