Diego Costa has admitted his signing announcement video for Wolves left him feeling uncomfortable.

Costa was confirmed as a Wolves player on Monday, signing a deal with the west Midlanders until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old returns to the Premier League for the first time since 2017, where he previously spent three years with Chelsea, winning two Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge.

He also established himself as one of the league’s most feared strikers and his new club wanted to echo that sentiment when they announced his signing.

The video shows the former Spain international walking with three wolves on the end of a chain. Despite his typical tough guy persona, Costa was feeling quite the opposite.

He said: “I was scared to death. Holding that chain I kept thinking, ‘What if this wolf thinks about jumping on top of me?’ and then the three of them did.

“Because the lady training them kept calling them, asked them to move around a little and the dog, the wolves didn’t do a single thing. And I thought, ‘If they’re not doing anything with the trainer, if they come’…when they came and smelled my foot, I knew I was done for.

“I was a little scared then. Those were wolves, not dogs. It was a cool experience but not a very comfortable one. I have five dogs, but they’re not wolves!”

Costa is now looking to build up his match fitness and it remains unclear if he will be able to make his debut against Manchester City on Saturday as games still remain in doubt following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.
