United fans are getting excited

De Gea posted a picture on his story of him in Manchester by a tennis court and it has now fuelled speculation that the Spaniard could be set for a return to the club.

The 'keeper left United after 12 years at the club following Erik ten Hag's decision to retract the contract offer sent to the number one at the last minute.

Andre Onana was brought in to replace De Gea but the 27-year-old has had a shaky start to life at Old Trafford while his predecessor is still without a club after he failed to receive any concrete offers.

But the 32-year-old's recent whereabouts have now got United fans speculating that he could be brought back to the club while others urged for Ten Hag to bring him back to United as a replacement for Onana.

"Now please come back," said one fan.

Another wrote: "Possible short term contract till season ends?

"Onana should be worried," a third added.

"I hope he's coming back as an advisor or coach to the new keepers....that's what management should've done for him instead of just letting him go," another said.

A fifth commented: "Great news. Next step is to replace Onana in goal."
