Manchester United are set to offer David De Gea a new five year contract that would make him the highest paid player in the history of the Premier League, according to The Times. De Gea's current deal expires in 2020 and the club's executives are desperate to keep hold of the Spanish shot-stopper who has been United's best player for the last few seasons. So much so that they have now, after a year and a half of negotiations, reportedly tabled the largest contract offer in the Premier League. Should he sign, De Gea would earn £23 million per year for five years, worth £365,000 per week, which would sett him above the likes of teammates Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez in the 'just earning loads and loads of money stakes'. It would even push him above him Arsenal's most expensive piece of dressing room furniture, Mesut Ozil, too. According to the report by The Times, only exorbitant agent demands could now derail the extension, as De Gea, understandably, seems amicable to extending his eight-year stay at the club under those terms. You know, the ones that give enough money to buy a gold house and a rocket car like Chester J. Lampwick from The Simpsons. If that wasn't enough, caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of his too, stating that De Gea is 'the best keeper in the world' and 'challenging Edwin [Van Der Sar] and Peter [Schmeichel] for the No 1 spot historically'. Not bad company to be keeping at all. De Gea is still only 28-years-old and has made 347 appearances for Manchester United already, so don't be surprised if he ends up taking that mantel before too long once he's signed on the dotted line in the Old Trafford board rooms.
