Jay-Z is said to have influenced Chelsea’s decision

Chelsea are willing to cut their losses on Romelu Lukaku and allow him to extend his loan stay at Inter Milan before selling him permanently.

Reports in Italy have suggested that Lukaku – who failed to impress following his £97m move to Stamford Bridge last season – is surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

Lukaku gave an explosive interview last December in which he revealed his intentions to return to Italy after struggling to adapt to life back in England.

The Blues eventually chose to loan him back to Inter – the club Chelsea signed him from – with the Serie A club paying his wages, as well as an  €8m loan fee plus a further potential €3m in bonuses.

Gazzetta dello Sport have said that all three parties are willing to extend the loan by a further 12 months and have even agreed a transfer fee for 2024 which will see Chelsea make a significant loss on the fee they paid for the Belgian.

Todd Boehly is willing to accept the club will make a loss thanks to an intervention from close friend, Jay-Z.

The rapper who owns Roc Nation, the same agency who handle all of Lukaku’s dealings, has suggested that staying at the San Siro would benefit all parties.

Lukaku hasn’t set the world alight since returning to Italy and has only played three matches this season, scoring one goal after suffering a thigh injury in August.

His record still remains mightily impressive across both spells having found the back of the net 64 goals in 95 games and helping the Nerazzurri to win the Scudetto in 2020.
