Boehly has his eyes on the PSG man

Chelsea are interested in hiring Luís Campos as the club’s new sporting director to work alongside the recently appointed Graham Potter.

Campos is currently working at Paris Saint-Germain as a football advisor after joining the club in June as was hailed as a “world-acclaimed football expert” after his arrival.

The 58-year-old made his name working at both Monaco and Lille, where he helped build sides at both clubs that would beat PSG to the Ligue 1 title.

His transfer market expertise also saw the sides make huge profits on players that they had signed for minimal fees, with the likes of Sven Botman, Fabinho, Rafael Leão and Kylian Mbappé all prime examples.

Chelsea’s new owners are not impressed with the performances and structure of the squad and The Times have reported that Todd Boehly has already spoken to Campos about becoming the Blues’ sporting director.

Boehly is currently acting as an interim sporting director and he has plans to spend big in the January transfer window, despite spending a club-record £261m on new players this summer.

The appointment of a new sporting director is important to Chelsea’s new manager, who replaced Thomas Tuchel after he was sacked on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after they were beaten 1-0 by Dinamo Zagreb in their first Champions League game of the season.

Potter will take charge of Chelsea for the first time on Wednesday, where they face Red Bull Salzburg at Stamford Bridge, after their game against Fulham was postponed as part of a decision to not play any Premier League games this weekend after the news that Queen Elizabeth II had died on Thursday.
