departure from Celtic to Leicester City would have been handled differently by Jose Mourinho, who believes the Scottish club deserved more respect from their former manager.
Mourinho, himself out of work as a manager
after being sacked by Manchester United in December, praised Celtic as a "giant club" and would have preferred to see Rodgers wait until the summer before moving.
On Sunday, he told BeIN Sports: "If you ask me if I am surprised by Brendan leaving Celtic to go to Leicester, I would say not surprised because the Scottish Premiership, with all respect, is not the same as the Premier League."
"Celtic is a giant club but the Premier League is the Premier League, so I am not surprised that he is coming.
"If I was in his position, I would say to Leicester: I want to come to you but not now, I want to come next season, I want to be a champion in Scotland, I want to leave in the right moment. In my opinion, the right moment will be pre-season."
Sections of the Celtic fanbase
have responded angrily to Rodgers' exit with Neil Lennon back in charge on an interim basis, leading the side to a 2-0 win over his former team, Hibernian, in the Scottish Cup on the weekend.
Meanwhile, Leicester failed to take their chances and ended up conceding a late winner away at Watford as their new boss took to the dugout for the first time. They now sit 11th in the Premier League, eight points off seventh place and a potential spot in European football next season.
