Mendy has been on trial at Chester Crown Court since August

Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty of six counts of rape and one charge of sexual assault against five women.

The jury at Chester Crown Court was discharged on Friday after it failed to reach a verdict on two further charges against the Manchester City player.

Co-accused Louis Saha Matturie was found not guilty of three counts of rape against two women.

Jurors were unable to reach verdicts on six further charges against him.

The Crown Prosecution Service has seven days to decide whether to pursue a retrial on the charges where a verdict could not be agreed.

The judge earlier told the jury that he will accept majority verdicts.

Mendy, 28, denied seven counts of rape against four women; one count of attempted rape alleged by a fifth woman; and one count of sexual assault against a sixth.

The offences were alleged to have taken place at his home in Prestbury between October 2018 and August of last year.

Matturie, 41, – Mendy’s co-defendant and alleged ‘fixer’ – denied six counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault. The allegations related to seven women.
