Glazer held talks while on a trip in the Middle East

Manchester United co-owner Avram Glazer has held talks with prospective investors while being in Qatar for the World Cup.

The Athletic have reported that Glazer has spoken to potential investors from Saudi Arabia and Qatar after they announced their intention to “explore strategic alternatives including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions” in November.

United’s exclusive financial advisor, The Raine Group, are hoping to complete a full sale of the club in the first quarter of 2023 at a price in the region of £6-7bn.

It is unknown how the talks between Glazer and the aforementioned parties went. The co-owner has other business interests in the Middle East, leading to scepticism from some in the financial world that an Arabian Gulf nation would be interested in buying into the club at a hefty price.

“That’s the update, it’s the process and the process is proceeding.”

Glazer was sat in the VIP section where only invitees of either the Qatari state, FIFA or commercial partners ate allowed to sit, however it isn’t known as to who invited him.

Avram Glazer is the son of Malcolm Glazer, who bought United in 2005. Alongside his brother Joel, Avram over the day-to-day running of the club after Malcom had suffered a stroke.
