Interesting move

Less than two weeks after his Hibernian contract was terminated, Anthony Stokes has found himself a new club.

The former Celtic striker has agreed a deal to join the Athens based club Apollon Smyrni FC, who are currently sitting in 14th in the Greek first division.

Stokes had been linked with moves to their rivals Panathinaikos, as well as a move to Bolton Wanderers. However, the Greek club’s website broke the news on Friday that he would be joining their ranks.

Stokes has had two contracts terminated in the last six months, from both Blackburn and Hibernian. Hibs manager Neil Lennon explained his decision to release the former Arsenal academy graduate recently.

“There is a line that I won’t tolerate, and Anthony had plenty of chances not to cross that line. We’ve been saying for years (that he’s a talented player), and it’s a shame, but I can’t keep rapping him on the knuckles and saying it’s all right,” said Lennon.
