Floyd Mayweather’s comeback opponent may not be Manny Pacquiao after all

Who knows what to believe?

Whatever Floyd Mayweather says must be taken with a pinch of salt.

Mayweather may well be coming out of retirement for another clash with Manny Pacquiao as he claimed but it’s not exactly outside the realms of possibility that ‘Money’ is simply attempting to keep his name in the headlines.

The undefeated American confronted Pacquiao in Japan over the weekend and insisted that he intended to dust off his gloves for one more payday.

“I’m coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year. Another 9-figure pay day on the way,” Mayweather wrote after coming face to face with his former rival.

Mayweather sounded confident that a deal could be done to run it back with Pacquiao before 2018 is out but now it appears that ‘Money’ is eager to sneak in one more fight before his rematch with the Filipino legend.

“I know everybody heard about the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight but before the Mayweahter/Pacquiao rematch, I will be back in Tokyo for a huge boxing event. Stay tuned!” Mayweather told TMZ Sports.

Mayweather claimed a unanimous decision over Pacquiao in 2015 after one of the most drawn-out negotiating processes in boxing history.

After stretching his record to 49-0 with his title defence against Andre Berto, Mayweather made it 50-0 by making an exception with and an example of UFC superstar Conor McGregor last summer.

The 41-year-old has kept himself in incredible shape in recent years and there’s no denying his ability to sell pay-per-views but we’re surely approaching a moment in time where he will start to lose relevance.

Surely!
