Fans rage as Gabriel Jesus receives elbow from Manchester City teammate while on international duty

The Brazilian needed a stretcher

We’re going out on a limb here but maybe this won’t go down all that well with Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola.

Nicolas Otamendi left his mark on City stablemate, Gabriel Jesus, during an international friendly between Brazil and Argentina on Friday morning in Australia.

Pep Guardiola will have been watching through his fingers when his temperamental defender landed a solid elbow on Jesus, who spent a large portion of his debut Premier League season out of action due to injury.

It appeared innocuous enough but the damage was such that a stretcher was required to take Jesus off the pitch late on in the game, which ended 1-0 in favour of Argentina.

Gabriel Mercado scored the match’s only goal, on the stroke of half-time, to give Jorge Sampaoli his first victory as Argentina boss.

And while the game was pegged as a friendly, meetings of Brazil and Argentina are seldom anything but ferocious.

Just ask Jesus, who will be nursing a bad headache all weekend.
