Everton player Martin Sherif has been fined following an FA investigation into the allegation that he breached betting rules.

In a statement, the FA confirmed: "The player admitted breaching FA Rule E1.2 by causing, permitting, or enabling 61 bets to be placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026."

The 20-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance for the club, and was first charged back in August.

Martin Sherif of Everton looks on during the pre-season friendly match between Tranmere Rovers and Everton XI at Prenton Park on July 22, 2023 in Tranmere, England.

According to the Liverpool Echo: "In the hearing, Sherif said that he did not place the bets himself, but admitted to permitting, causing or enabling betting on football through accounts he had opened and funded."

Also detailed in the report, the Echo have made clear that the FA chose not to give Sherif a sporting ban on the basis that: The [commission] felt that the forward's conduct 'did not warrant a sporting sanction.'

"Factors such as his early admission of guilt, his young age when the bets were placed and the genuine remorse he shown were taken into account," the report adds.

Sherif has been with the Toffees for seven years, having arrived at the club aged just 13.
