An announcement is coming…soon

Manchester United are set to formally announce Erik Ten Hag as the club’s new manager imminently, according to multiple reports.

The two clubs just have compensation fees to sort out

Ten Hag has been heavily linked with the role at Old Trafford and after a series of successful interviews, will put pen to paper ahead of taking over in the summer.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Ten Hag’s current club Ajax are in discussions over the compensation – which is believed to be around €2m – before confirmation is made.

Romano also added that is unlikely an announcement would be made on Monday or Tuesday, however it seems more than likely that months of speculation will come to an end imminently.

The delay in announcement was also partially to allow the Ajax boss to focus on his club’s Dutch Cup final against PSV Eindhoven, in which they were beaten 2-1.

Ten Hag will have his work cut out at Old Trafford

United are expected to undergo yet another major overhaul following a bitterly disappointing campaign in which their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League hang by the skin of their teeth.

Coupled with early exits in all three cup competitions and division in the dressing room, the 50-year-old’s work will be cut out as he tries to replicate his success in the Netherlands.

Ten Hag will work closely with current interim boss Ralf Rangnick, who will move upstairs into a consultancy role, with the Dutchman also keen to have full authority on transfer dealings this summer.

Several players will also be expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer. Some have already announced they will leave at the end of the season – Nemanja Matic is one of those – while question marks over players such as Paul Pogba’s future still need answering.

A win for United against arch rivals Liverpool on Tuesday will see them go level on points with Tottenham Hotspur.
