Manchester United fan breaks silence on row with technical director Darren Fletcher

The row occurred after Iheanacho opened the scoring

A Manchester United supporter has spoken about his row with technical director Darren Fletcher on the subs bench at Old Trafford during the 1-1 draw against Leicester at the weekend. Jamie Caplan, a 25-year-old United fan, spoke to the Manchester Evening News about the incident, which began when he shouted towards the bench after Kelechi Iheanacho scored for Leicester on Sunday afternoon.

The United fan 'wasn't aiming his dig at Fletcher'

Caplan claims that he was frustrated with the lack of effort the Red Devils players were showing, but that he wasn't aiming his dig specifically at Fletcher. However, things quickly changed when the Scot reportedly asked him 'who the f*** are you?' He told MEN: "He's the one who took offence and turned around and asked me who the f*** I was and to sit down. That's when I went back at Fletcher because I took that very personally.

"I then went into a bit of a rage, so he didn't say much then. And then Scott McTominay turned around. I couldn't make out what he was saying because I was already walking up the stairs by this point."

Caplan added: "As a matchgoing fan, I put a lot of money into the club, I go watch them a lot. "'Where's the f***ing fight? You don't care.' That's pretty much word-for-word what I said. "He (Fletcher) didn't like it. But he can't be in denial, he was there. He knows the standards that are required to be top-level.

"He was in a dressing room with Roy Keane and if he turned around to me and say that's a good enough United side then he's a liar and I don't believe him.

"Just look at all the old pros, they all say the same thing, it's just not there, the desire. It isn't there."

The 25-year-old also insisted that he had no regrets over his outburst, and would even do it again. He left the game 10 minutes after the incident and missed Fred's equaliser. Despite the altercation, Caplan is keen to speak to Fletcher to resolve the issue.

Champions League hopes slipping away

The draw against the Foxes leaves United in seventh position in the Premier League - three points off the top four, but with games against Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea to come.

Ralf Rangnick's men return to action on Saturday against Frank Lampard's Everton, who are battling to avoid relegation from the top-flight.
