Ronaldo has been granted additional time off

Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of Manchester United’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

The 37-year-old has been granted additional time off to deal with a family issue, and the Portuguese International will not join the travelling party to Thailand and Australia.

Ronaldo has not reported for pre-season training this week due to “family reasons”, and it emerged last week that the forward wishes to leave United.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, a United spokesperson said: “Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United party scheduled to depart for our pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia on Friday. He has been granted additional time off to deal with a family issue.

“Cristiano remains under contract with Manchester United for another season and he is not for sale.”

The Portuguese international is frustrated at the Red Devils’ transfer market activity, with the attacker said to be annoyed that he has been forced to take a 25 per cent salary cut as consequence of the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Premier League rivals Chelsea have expressed an interest in signing Ronaldo, with Bayern Munich also mentioned as potential suitors.

Liverpool airport offer Ronaldo ‘escape route’

Liverpool airport gave Ronaldo the offer of a lifetime by informing him that they are able to fly him to any of the destinations where prospective clubs are interested in signing him.

The staff at Liverpool were on hand to lend some help should the United man be tempted by any of the prospective buyers, listing all the places and airlines he could fly with. There was also glowing recommendations for the hospitality he would get.

There was also a sly dig at neighbouring city Manchester, where the airport has come under huge scrutiny amid a series of delayed flights, long queues and a shortage of staff.
