Some big names have missed out

Cristiano Ronaldo has played with quite a few talented players in his time.

Having had two stints at Manchester United, played for Real Madrid, Juventus and others, he’s been blessed to share the stage with some true greats.

For most people, picking their greatest XI of players must be difficult, but for Ronaldo, well, the options are endless.

During a recent interview with Goal Arabia, the 38-year-old went through his best XI of players he had lined up alongside throughout his career.

Starting in goal, Ronaldo selected Iker Casillas before an almighty back four containing Sergio Ramos, Rio Ferdinand, Giorgio Chiellini and Marcelo.

Moving on into the midfield and there was no sign of the side getting any weaker. A trio of Toni Kroos Luka Modrić, along with United great Paul Scholes.

Finally, to complete an incredible XI, an attacking line-up of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Wayne Rooney.

Fair to say that if that side is playing, there’s probably only going to be one outcome.

Rooney’s inclusion may come as a surprise to some after tension between the two last year following the D.C United manager’s criticism in response to Ronaldo’s Old Trafford exit.

“The things he has done from the start of the season, it is not acceptable for Manchester United,” Rooney said.

Ronaldo responded by saying: “I don’t know why he criticises me so badly… probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at a high level.

“I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true…”
