Conor McGregor is now trying a new approach to setting up his rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov

Last week, McGregor took an aggressive approach as he aimed insults at Nurmagomedov’s wife in an increasingly hostile war of words that ended with the UFC intervening and warning the lightweight rivals about their conduct.

‘The Notorious’ has now changed tack and is taking a more reflective look at his submission defeat in the main event of UFC 229.

McGregor insists that he is quite content with how the grudge match played out last October, pointing to his ability to avoid much punishment from Nurmagomedov’s typically relentless ground and pound.

The Irishman also revealed that he broke his foot three weeks before his clash with Nurmagomedov but takes pride in his determination to march forward on fight night.

McGregor has only recently become free to compete again after being suspended for six months for his role in the post-fight brawl.

While he hinted at a desire to retire last month, it wasn’t long before McGregor was assuring fans that they would see him back in the Octagon.

According to UFC President Dana White, McGregor remains focused on securing a rematch with Nurmagomedov but the undefeated Russian is less interested in running it back, having identified other fights for when he returns to action after serving his suspension.
