Clevedon Town score non-league goal of the season with ridiculous volley

Oli Babington of Clevedon Town AFC has staked a claim to goal of the season, maybe not just in non-league but the entire footballing pyramid

He’ll be dreaming about this for years

Regardless of the level you are playing at, every now and then a ball will drop so nicely, and you’ll catch it so well on the volley, you’ll briefly convince yourself you should be playing in a Champions League final. Everyone has that one moment where they play well beyond their abilities, which turns into an anecdote for countless pub trips. Trust me, I’ve got my own, but that’s a story for another day.

That is what has happened to Clevedon Town AFC’s Oli Babington, who might just have scored goal of the season – not just in non-league, but in the entire English footballing pyramid.

As a teammate’s attempted pass is intercepted and balloons into the air, Babington – who appears to be playing at right-back – cannot resist the chance to put his laces through the ball.

When the ball reaches its peak altitude, a voice in the crowd encapsulates the viewing experience with an exclamation of “Oh, hello.”

The ball dips at the perfect moment, leaving the goalkeeper helpless to prevent the ball from nestling into the net behind him.

Clevedon beat Buckland Athletic 4-2 in the game, climbing to 13th in the Premier Division of the Toolstation Western League.
