Rafa Benitez insisted Newcastle United can get better after witnessing his side thrash QPR 6-0 at Loftus Road.

United started the season with a loss against Fulham and had only three points after three games but, are now very much hitting their stride.

Rangers could have overtaken their opponents with three points in West London, but instead they were put to the sword in front of their own fans as Newcastle’s multi-millionaires ran amok.

Goal of the night definitely went to Jonjo Shelvey, who curled in this outrageous effort from 25 yards out.

12 months ago the midfielder was in the mix for a place in England’s Euro 2016 squad, before falling out of favour at Swansea, moving to the North East in January.

He was unable to keep the Magpies in the Premier League last season, but has shown his class in the second tier.

Shelvey ended up scoring a brace to make it three goals in five Championship starts, with Ciaran Clark, Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Grant Hanley completing the scoring. Both he and the Toon are starting to motor.

They now sit just one point behind league leaders Huddersfield Town, who suffered their first league defeat of the season at Brighton last night.
