Reports claimed that Liverpool had opened talks with Kylian Mbappé

Chelsea are reportedly set to try and hijack Liverpool’s move for Kylian Mbappé by offering Paris Saint-Germain a swap deal proposal.

Mbappé has 12 months left on his contract at PSG and is refusing to sign a new deal with the French champions and rather than lose their star man for free, are looking to cash in now.

Reports last week claimed that Liverpool had opened talks with the Frenchman about a one-year loan deal which will allow PSG to receive a sizeable fee and enable the World Cup winner to move to Real Madrid in 2024.

In 2018, Mbappé revealed that he was close to joining Liverpool – the club his mum supports.

“Liverpool is the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool,” he said.

“I don’t know why, you will have to ask her! It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”

But Chelsea, who have had a long-term interest in Mbappé, are now willing to offer a cash-plus-player deal to PSG, according to the Daily Record.

No player name has been mentioned but Mauricio Pochettino still appears to be keen on gutting his squad which has already seen the likes of Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacić, Edouard Mendy and more leave Stamford Bridge.

The Blues meanwhile have agreed a deal to sign Monaco defender Axel Disasi for £38m following the news that Wesley Fofana will be ruled out for an extended period of time after suffering another ACL injury.
