‘City have been run brilliantly the last five, ten years’
Manchester City are currently one of the most divisive talking points in the sporting world thanks to their dominating success in England.
The Citizens have won the last four Premier League titles in a row as well as treble in the 2022/23 season, becoming only the second English club to do so after local rivals Manchester United.
However, it is not just City’s success that have people talking, but also the 115 charges that are currently stacked up against the Premier League outfit for a multitude of matters.
These charges concern failure to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, failure to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) as well as failure to provide accurate financial information, just to name a handful.
However, despite the size and potential ramifications of these charges if found guilty, some supporters have still admitted that City have still been an incredibly well-run club to the envy of many rival fans.
Ahead of the Chelsea’s opening game of the Premier League season with Manchester City, the SportsJOE team headed to Stamford Bridge to get the thoughts and feelings of Chelsea fans on their opponents.
Despite many fans stating they had no respect for the Manchester club, one fan explained calmy that he believed the UAE backed team are one of the best run teams in England.
He said: “Out of the last five, ten years, City have been the best run club in the league.
“People can slate them, they spend money, whatever, but they’ve let people go at the right times, they’ve brought in some good players.”
If you look at net spend, Chelsea, United, even Arsenal, they’re spending a lot more, so regardless of what people say, City have been run brilliantly the last five, ten years.”
This sentiment was not rare among the fans as, when asked if they had respect for Man City, another Chelsea fan said: “A little bit, from another oil club.”
“At the end of the day they’ve managed to build what they have, they’ve done a good job to be fair, it’s what we want to get to.”
Only a couple weeks ago Man City manager Pep Guardiola called out other clubs for their spending down the years.
City have spent £2.6 billion since their take over with a net spend of £1.36 billion.
During the same period Manchester United spent £1.84 billion although have a net spend of £1.3 billion, almost the same as their noisy neighbours.
Meanwhile Arsenal have spent £1.65 billion with a net spend of £1.04 billion.
