Charlton Athletic troll Swindon Town with hilarious clip from The Office

Jack Peat

Jack Payne became the third Swindon Town player to join The Addicks this summer

Swindon Town midfielder Jack Payne has signed for Charlton Athletic, the club has announced.

The 27-year-old will join his former boss Ben Garner at The Valley on a two-year contract and becomes the third player to make the switch this summer.

Garner has already swooped for goalkeeper Joe Wollacott and right-back Mandela Egbo. Scott Marshall, part of his backroom team, has also made the switch to the League One club.

The club will be hoping for an improvement on last season when they could only muster a mid-table finish.

Announcing the signing on Twitter, The Addicks used a famous clip from The Office to troll Swindon Town supporters.

In the clip, David Brent discusses the prospect of his office incorporating the Swindon branch with area manager Jennifer Taylor-Clarke, or Camilla Parker Bowles as David Brent calls her (not to her face though).

She warns Brent not to make anything public before he receives a call from Chris Finch who makes a lewd comment about his manager while on loud speaker.

In the clip below, Finchy is edited out for Payne, who confirms he has made the switch.

He says: “Jack Payne here, formally of Swindon.

“Yeah I just thought I’d let you know that I’ll be signing for Charlton later. Look forward to seeing you then.”

The clip has since been removed by the club, despite racking up tens of thousands of views.

JOE has contacted the club for comment.
