Practice makes perfect

Footage of Champions League final referee Szymon Marciniak going through his warm ups for the game have emerged, with one exercise in particular that caught people’s eyes.

Marciniak took charge of Manchester City’s 1-0 win against Inter Milan on June 10 in Istanbul, becoming only the second referee to officiate the Champions League final and World Cup final in the same season.

The final is one of the biggest moments of the season and is just as important for officials, who have to keep the game in check in front of millions of people.

However footage of the Polish official before kick off has emerged and shows him practising to give out a yellow card to players.

Luckily his practice paid off as he dished out six yellow cards on the night, including one to Inter boss Simone Inzaghi but fans reacting to the video published by Man City on YouTube, have found the lighter side to it all.

“I actually can’t believe that refs practice showing the card in front of a mirror,” wrote one person.

“My highlight is the referee warming up by practicing his yellow card technique.”
