Carlton Cole “to be sacked” because he hasn’t scored a goal

This could set a worrying precedent for misfiring strikers

This could set a worrying precedent for misfiring strikers.

Carlton Cole is to be sacked by his club because he hasn’t a goal this season, according to Sky Sports.

Cole joined Persib in March, but hasn’t found the back of the net in his four appearances for the Indonesian club.

“It’s the management’s decision to dismiss him, we will have a new player in the second round of the season,” Persib manager Umuh Muchtar said.

“He plays very badly compared to the other (foreign players) who have joined Persib. He had the worst performance.”

The club’s owner Erick Thohir, who is also president of Inter Milan, clearly had enough of the former England striker. Yes, that’s right, Carlton Cole has played for England, seven times, and you haven’t.

The former West Ham United forward hasn’t scored a goal since 2016, when he netted during a brief spell with Celtic. Before his spell in Indonesia, Cole played three games for Sacramento Republic in the United States.

The 33-year-old began his career with Chelsea, but is best remembered for spending nine years with West Ham. He has 86 goals in 396 games across his career.
