The lightest boots use high-tech materials and AI-powered design

Canterbury has launched Speed Infinite Elite, which at 217 grams, is their lightest and most advanced rugby boot ever made. Drawing on the brand’s 119
years of knowledge in rugby, futuristic technology and materials combine to meet the needs of the modern player.

Speed Infinite Elite were tested throughout the 2022/2023 season by several players including Newcastle Falcons and England wing Adam Radwan, Exeter Chiefs wing Jodie Ounsley, England Red Roses star Ellie Kildunne, and Ireland wing Mack Hansen – winning this year’s Six Nations Grand Slam title in them.

“Having secretly worn the Canterbury Speed Infinite Elite boot this season, including for the best moment of my career, it’s clearly designed for the elite game,” Hansen said.

“Canterbury really has delivered the next generation of rugby boot. My first reaction was that, for a boot designed specifically for rugby, it’s incredibly
lightweight – it’s about the same weight as an iPhone. It looks great and the tight fit is comfortable on your foot, so it’s amazingly comfortable and helps to
maximise my speed and performance on the pitch.”

Canterbury Brand Director, Jack Richardson added: “If you look on the pitch right now, rugby players are wearing tight-fitting lightweight football boots. They’re not up to the task, so for the last three years we’ve got to work on creating a rugby boot designed to meet the specific needs of rugby players.”

He continued: “We’ve developed Speed Infinite Elite from the ground up, working with some of the fastest rugby players in the game, and the end-product isn’t simply ultra-lightweight; it also has the stability needed to deal with the demands of the sport. It’s a breakthrough moment for Canterbury in boots.”

Combined with an ultra-thin VAPOSKIN membrane, Artificial Intelligence has been used to power its design and strip out unnecessary weight, utilising
science-pioneer Alan Turing’s Reaction Diffusion Algorithm to apply embroidered stitch reinforcement to targeted areas in the most efficient organic pattern. This new, tighter fit reduces energy loss and provides ultimate ball-feel for kicking.

Speed Infinite Elite is available in a white and glow-in-the-dark “HYPERNATURE” colourway inspired by bioluminescence and the power of the South Pacific Ocean, alongside the “LIMITLESS” black and purple pack inspired by the infinite possibilities of the universe.
