The game was briefly delayed by five minutes
Ange Postecoglou’s first game in charge as Tottenham manager got off to later start than expected after play was kick off was delayed.
Just before the game was about to get underway, Sky Sports commentator Bill Leslie had confirmed that there had been a health and safety issue in the ground after water had stopped flowing into it.
While there was no timeframe on when the issue would be fixed, it was only a brief five minute delay before referee Robert Jones brought the two captains to the centre circle and conducted the usual routine before kick off. It was then confirmed 10 minutes into the game that the water was back and working at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Spurs are playing their first game without Harry Kane since he left for Bayern Munich.
Kane joined for a fee just under the club’s £100m valuation however Spurs have made several other additions this summer including James Maddison, Michy van de ven, Guglielmo Vicario and others.
Son Heung-min was also appointed as captain of the side as Spurs look to vastly improve on a disappointing Premier League campaign last season which saw them finish outside of the European places.
