Brennan Johnson Joins Everton in Palace Swap Deal
Everton and Crystal Palace have completed a swap deal that takes Brennan Johnson to Merseyside and sends Dwight McNeil in the opposite direction. The Wales winger, 25, has signed a four-year contract, while McNeil, 26, has agreed a deal until 2030.
Johnson joined Tottenham Hotspur from Nottingham Forest for a fee in excess of £45m in 2023 and scored the winning goal in last May’s Europa League final, before a £35m move to Palace in January. He made 26 appearances at Selhurst Park but failed to score, and his switch is one of the more eye-catching moves ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season.
What the Brennan Johnson swap means
McNeil had been close to joining Palace in February, when a loan-to-buy deal worth £20m collapsed despite the winger passing a medical, after the paperwork could not be completed in time — an episode BBC Sport reported prompted his partner to accuse the club of toying with his mental health.
Johnson, who has 45 caps for Wales, said he “immediately wanted to come and be part” of the club, as Everton continue their summer rebuild ahead of the new season.
