Betting lines for Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather have changed dramatically

Times have changed

Ben Kiely

If you’re willing to put money behind Conor McGregor beating Floyd Mayweather, you should have got there sooner.

McGregor hasn’t got a hope in hell, right?

Who in their right mind would put money on him defeating arguably the greatest boxer ever in his professional debut?

What would those odds even be? 1,000,000/1? ∞/1? ∞+1/1?

Well it wasn’t all that long ago when Mayweather was a huge favourite over the UFC superstar in the yet-to-be-booked megafight. About a year ago, when the diamond-encrusted panty night was merely a figment of combat sports nerd’s imagination, you’t get Mayweather at -2000 to McGregor’s +900. (That’s the Notorious as a 9/1 underdog with ‘Money’ beig the 1/20 favourite, for anyone who’s confused.)

Times have changed. Now this money fight looks like a certainty to actually happen. There’s just too much money on the line for it not to materialise.

However, the closer we get to these two warriors facing each other inside the ring, the more the odds are going to change.

That same bookie that opened those odds a year ago, Bovada, remarkably sees the fight being a lot closer over since 12 months have passed. Their current line (via Oddsshark) is Mayweather at -750 with McGregor at +475.

Be under no illusion, Mayweather’s still a heavy enough favourite, but he’s just slightly less of a heavy favourite. However, be sure to keep an eye on the line if you fancy placing a bet on it, it is guaranteed to change again.
