The pair have impressed at Leicester City this season and have been rewarded with senior call-ups after Luke Shaw and Raheem Sterling withdrew

The pair have impressed in the Premier League this season

Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray are set to be handed their first senior England call-ups for Tuesday’s friendly against Switzerland.

The Leicester duo have impressed in the Premier League next season, cementing their places in the first team for the Foxes, with Chilwell climbing ahead of Christian Fuchs in the pecking order.

They will replace the injured Luke Shaw and Raheem Sterling. Shaw played well on his return to the England squad after 16 months away from the national team set-up, but was left unconscious when he clashed with Dani Carvajal and was subsequently stretchered off before being X-rayed.

Gray will take the place of Sterling, who withdrew from the squad before the UEFA Nations League game against Spain with a ‘back problem’.

Given England’s current options in the wide attacking positions and at left-back, it is hard to argue against the decision to give the pair the opportunity to showcase their ability in the senior squad, having shone in the U21s.
