Bit much?

The Money Belt, ladies and gentlemen.

On Wednesday afternoon, it was announced that a special belt would be on the line when Conor McGregor makes his boxing debut against 49-0 legend Floyd Mayweather.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman surprised everyone by revealing the details of the so-called Money Belt which will be handed to the winner of McGregor vs. Mayweather this weekend.

“In order to celebrate this event between the WBC hero and the UFC hero, Conor McGregor, the WBC has created the Money Belt,” Sulaiman said at the final press conference at the MGM Grand.

“This belt has 3,360 diamonds, 600 sapphires, 300 emeralds, 1.5 kilograms of solid, 24-karat gold and alligator leather that comes from Italy.”

The ring girls were then encouraged to show off the prize to the reporters in attendance, many of whom chuckled at the sight of the belt.

There is no “official” belt on the line when McGregor steps through the ropes for the first time against one of the greatest to ever lace his gloves.

But given the spectacular nature of the contest, it would seem strange for the winner to celebrate in the ring empty-handed.

It’s no more than a token prize and it shouldn’t be taken seriously. But fans were none too happy with the unveiling of the dazzling Money Belt.
