He was rushed to hospital

Reuben Pinder

It is believed to have been caused by heat exhaustion

Karim Bellarabi of Bayer Leverkusen collapsed on Tuesday afternoon at the side of the pitch during a pre-season friendly in Wutterpal in eastern Germany.

The winger had been taken off as a substitute at half time but collapsed on the substitutes’ bench during the second half on approximately the 70 minute mark.

After he regained consciousness he was taken to hospital and is recovering well, as reported by the club’s official Twitter account.

The cause of his collapse was heat exhaustion, after temperatures reached 33 degrees in Wutterpal in the afternoon.
