It’s August, and football players have been spotted wearing hats and gloves during their warm-up

No. No, no, no. NO.

Surely – *surely* – this is Michelle Owen on a wind-up?

After all, this is August: still very much British summertime. And while these isles aren’t exactly sweltering in the heatwave of a couple of weeks back, we can all agree that this is definitely not hats and gloves weather… can’t we?

At Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium ahead of their Championship game with Preston North End on Saturday afternoon, a tweet from Owen pointed out that at least two of the home side’s players had opted to wear hats and gloves during the warm-up. Fortunately for them, the fact the picture appears to have been taken by a cameraphone and not a long lens means we’re not able to reveal their identity just yet.

While the weather wasn’t fantastic at the time the picture was taken – a few showers were in the area – temperatures of around 16°C surely didn’t warrant hats and gloves…

No doubt that this, to some, is further evidence to support the theory that the game has well and truly gone.

Swansea’s game against Preston was their first home game since their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season. Their return to the second tier began with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United last weekend.
