Roy Keane didn’t hold back when criticising Jack Wilshere and Arsenal after loss to Ostersund

"Probably the most overrated player on the planet"

“Probably the most overrated player on the planet.”

Arsenal survived a scare on Thursday night in the second-leg of their Europa League tie with Ostersund. The Gunners took a 3-0 lead into the match, but were left stunned when Ostersund scored twice in quick succession in the first-half at the Emirates.

The Swedish side needed just another goal to take the tie to extra-time and cause a massive upset. Sead Kolasinac pulled a goal back for Arsenal just after half-time, to make it 4-2 on aggregate, and Arsene Wenger’s side managed to squeeze through to the last-16 of the competition.

However, the team’s complacency was obvious from the first whistle, and they will need a massive improvement in form for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

On ITV highlights of the Europa League, Roy Keane was deeply unimpressed by Arsenal’s display. The former Manchester United captain said Wenger’s side were “a great example of how not to start a game of football.”

“They were so slow out of the blocks, poor attitude, the manager summed it up, no energy, no desire.”

Keane then took aim at Jack Wilshere, Arsenal’s captain on the night.

“You look for your senior players to lead by example. When Wilshere is your captain… to me, he is probably the most overrated player on the planet. And they got lucky with the result at the end of it.”
