Anthony Joshua has picked a side in the Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin bout

"I'll put my money on him!"

MayMac is over. Now it’s time for the *real* biggest fight of the year.

While there is likely no chance that Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin eclipses the gate and pay-per-view buyrate of Conor McGregor’s boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather, pugilism purists are far more eager to witness the super-fight that has been years in the making.

September 16 will see the unbeaten Golovkin face his toughest test to date and the bout should be significantly more competitive than Mayweather vs. McGregor turned out to be.

Alvarez’s only career defeat came against Mayweather but the Mexican was just 23 years old at the time and he has shown significant improvements since that contest.

Meanwhile, Golovkin’s professional record remains unblemished and his fondness for turning opponents’ lights out has made him one of the most thrilling fighters walking the planet.

Another man who falls into that category is Anthony Joshua, the Olympic champion whose meteoric rise in the professional ranks has been as quick as it’s been devastating.

With less than two weeks to go until Canelo vs. GGG goes down, ‘AJ’ has revealed who he is siding with in the fight that has captured boxing’s imagination.

“I hope Canelo wins, not that I don’t like Triple G. I have just been riding with Canelo for a long time,” Joshua told Sports Mail.

“He’s 27 and the man has achieved so much and he’ll be one of the fathers. He’s still a baby but he’ll be one of the fathers in the sport, give him another 10 years. He’ll be around for a long time and I think he’ll do great things for the sport.

“So I have been riding with Canelo for a long time but it’s going to be a tough fight because Triple G is from Kazakhstan, he has the good foundations of a boxer. But so has Canelo, so I’ll put my money on him.”
