Khan was beaten by Brook in Manchester on Saturday night

Amir Khan has revealed that he will probably “call it a day” following his loss to Kell Brook on Saturday night.

The Bolton-born boxer was beaten following a sixth round stoppage at the Manchester Arena as the feud between the two, which has lasted over two decades, was finally resolved.

Khan started the fight off strongly, but was no match for the power of Brook who landed heavy hits in the first, fourth and fifth rounds before ultimately delivering a fatal blow in the sixth to give the referee no option but to stop the fight.

Following his defeat, Khan gave the biggest indication yet that he may hang up the gloves, but admitted that it is a conversation he needs to have with his family first.

“I need to sit down with my family, but it is more towards the end of my career,” he told Sky Sports.

“The love of the sport isn’t there any more.

“That is a sign for me that I should maybe be calling it a day.”

The veteran fighter also apologised to his supporters, but admitted that he was beaten by the better man on the day.

“I’m very upset. I just couldn’t get it going. I have fallen a little bit short,” he added.

“Obviously he was the best man today.

“I was catching Kell with some good shots, but I’m not blaming anyone.

“I had a great training camp but couldn’t get going. I was falling short and missing a lot. Kell was on his A-game today.”
