Alleged DUI body-cam footage of UFC Hall of Famer released by police

Stephan Bonnar appears to be barely conscious in the unsettling footage

Stephan Bonnar is due to appear in court on November 26 after being arrested on a felony DUI charge last week.

The mixed martial arts veteran, who took part in one of the greatest UFC fights of all time when he fought Forrest Griffin in The Ultimate Fighter Season One finale, was taken into custody on Sunday after alleged reckless driving on a Las Vegas motorway.

The Nevada Highway Patrol have since released footage of the arrest and it makes for unsettling viewing as Bonnar appears to be drifting in and out of consciousness as he is pulled from his vehicle and restrained.

The 41-year-old has also been charged with resisting a public official and unsafe starting or movement of a stopped vehicle and according to an NHP statement obtained by MMA Fighting, Sunday’s incident represents Bonnar’s third DUI offence.

Bonnar was released on $22,000 bail on Monday.

“The Trooper reported smelling the odour of an unknown alcoholic beverage emitting from the driver and displaying signs of intoxication,” the NHP release stated. “Medical staff responded to the scene and determined nothing medically was abnormal with the driver.”

Bonnar initially retired from MMA following his last fight under the UFC banner – a TKO defeat to Anderson Silva – but he did make one appearance for rival promotion Bellator, when he came up short against Tito Ortiz in 2014.
