Alexis Sanchez capitalises on Arsenal teammate’s error to score landmark goal

Nice finish

Nice finish.

Alexis Sanchez is now his country’s all-time top scorer, and an Arsenal teammate played his part in the goal. Sanchez scored his 38th goal for Chile in their Confederations Cup game against Germany in Kazan.

The 28-year-old, in his 109th international appearance, scored after just six minutes of the game, thanks in large part to an error by Shkodran Mustafi.

The Arsenal centre-half collected the ball from the Marc Andre ter Stegen in the German goal and tried to play a pass into midfield.

However, Arturo Vidal came forward and managed to get a touch on Mustafi’s pass.

The ball landed at Sanchez’s feet, he played a one-two with Vidal and was through on goal, after Mustafi charged into a tackle and left an ocean of space behind him.

Sanchez then scored with a nice finish at the near post to give his side the lead. He’s now Chile’s record scorer, beating the record set by Marcelo Salas back in 2007.
