Talks are said to be ongoing in Norway

Crystal Palace striker Alexander Sørloth is reportedly in talks with Champions League semi-finalists Red Bull Leipzig, who sold first choice striker Timo Werner to Chelsea on July 1.

Sørloth has spent the last season on loan at Turkish Süper Lig side Trabzonspor, and shown a level of form and goalscoring ability not seen during his time in Roy Hodgson’s Palace side.

Though he failed to score a single league goal in 16 appearances for the Eagles, Sørloth scored 24 goals in 34 appearances in Turkey, and 29 in all competitions.

According to TV2, this form has piqued the interest of Julian Nagelsmann and Red Bull Leipzig, who believe he can do a job in the Bundesliga.

Whether Leipzig see Sørloth as a first choice replacement for Werner is as yet unknown. While Sørloth is generally considered something of a target man due to his height and aerial ability, a number of the goals he scored in Turkey last season – runs from deep, low drilled finishes under the keeper – were reminiscent of those scored by Werner over the same period.

Leipzig earlier this week reached the Champions League semi-final for the first time in their short history, defeating Atletico Madrid in a one-off tie in Lisbon.

They’ll meet Paris Saint-Germain in the semis.
