Alan Shearer sums up what everyone is thinking about Manchester United right now

Wayne Farry

Hard to disagree with this very honest assessment

Manchester United are quite the shambles at the moment. Since their shock win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League second round they have been in free fall, and Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea made it next to impossible for them to secure Champions League qualification for next season’s competition.

The problems with the club are myriad, from a board preoccupied by literally everything on the face of this earth other than football, and a playing squad which has become a mix of overpaid mediocrity and frustrated talent.

All of these things were likely in the mind of former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer when discussing United prior to their 2-0 Premier League defeat to rivals Manchester City last week.

Speaking on Premier League TV alongside ex-United winger Ryan Giggs and former City goalkeeper Shay Given, as well as host Arlo White, Shearer summed up United’s current plight in four extremely simple words.

“Manchester United are fucked,” said the Geordie during his analysis of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team, before attempting to pull the words back into his mouth.

He was unable to do so though. And in truth it’s probably a good thing, because he was 100 percent correct in his assessment of the club, and they are views that a significant number of fans of the club will echo.
