AFC Wimbledon’s Scott Wagtaff keeps beard promise for FA Cup game – then stays on bench

Wagstaff kept his word after the Dons’ fourth round win over West Ham

AFC Wimbledon’s FA Cup dream is over. Despite their fourth round heroics against the Premier League’s West Ham, the struggling League One side lost by a single goal at home to Millwall on Saturday afternoon.

Undeniably a disappointing day for all connected with the club, winger Scott Wagstaff was likely to have felt more frustrated than most.

The 28-year-old had vowed to dye his trademark beard if the Dons progressed against West Ham in the last round and, having scored two goals to help ensure that they did, kept his word prior to the Millwall game.

Though Wagstaff did get to show off his half-blue/half-yellow beard at Kingsmeadow, unfortunately for him, it was only from the substitutes’ bench – where he stayed for the duration of the game.

The only goal of the game came inside five minutes, courtesy of Murray Wallace. Millwall, who also beat Premier League opposition in Everton in round four, march on.
