Western United defender Ben Garuccio scored a sensational scorpion kick goal in his side’s 3-2 win over Western Sydney Wanderers.
Garuccio lept into the air in the 68th minute to score his second goal of the game and United’s third as John Aloisi’s side picked up an important victory at the AAMI Park.
Taking inspiration from Olivier Giroud’s scorpion kick against Crystal Palace and Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s against Sunderland, Garuccio somehow managed to lift his left leg to reach a ball and lifted it past Western Sydney Wanderers shot-stopper Daniel Marguh.

Prior to the fixture, Garuccio had not scored in nearly four years, with his last goal coming back in July 2018 when he was playing for Hearts.
Aleksandar Prijović opened the scoring for the home side in the 27th minute, before Garuccio doubled Western United’s lead with his first goal in added-time of the first-half.
Tomer Hemed pulled a goal back for Western Sydney Wanderers just after the interval with a penalty, however, their fight-back was short-lived as 26-year-old Garuccio scored with a sensational scorpion kick.
Steven Ugarkovic pulled another back for the away side but it proved to be too late as Western held on to secure all three points.
United’s win takes them a point clear of Melbourne City while still having a game in hand on the reigning champions.
