Fans are desperate to see a change
Ninety per cent of football fans believe Gareth Southgate should play a back three against Switzerland today in their quarter-final match up.
Such a tactical change would see England go toe-to-toe with the Swiss who have been playing a back three all tournament to great success, seeing La Nati draw with Germany in the groups and beat Italy in the round of 16.
In a poll posted by FootballJOE, 90% of fans thinks Southgate should use the back three formation.
Such a high number comes as England fans hope to see a change in their poor on pitch performances, with many thinking this could be the catalyst.
Southgate, whose England team has been uninspiring and overall poor this tournament will be hoping to neutralise Switzerland and also spark some creativity with this change in formation.
England are no stranger to the back three system, employing the system twice in the Euro 2020 knockouts, first as they beat Germany and secondly as they lost to Italy in the final.
This decision by the England manager to use this formation speaks volumes of Switzerland’s quality as well as the respect Southgate has for his opposition.

Traditionally the back three has been a card up Southgate’s sleeve for the tougher matches as seen in the last Euros, although the formation did not appear at the 2022 World Cup.
England fans main worry with this change might just be the availability of players to use this system with Marc Guehi suspended and Luke Shaw still unfit.
This leaves a likely back three of Konsa, Stones and Walker while Saka is expected to reprise his left wing-back role he played against Slovakia.
Either Trippier or Alexander-Arnold is expected to start at right wing-back.
England and Switzerland have had contrasting tournaments so far, with England yet to play a notably hard match and failing to show the depth of quality in their squad.
Meanwhile Switzerland have impressed, taking Germany all 12 rounds to draw 1-1 in the group stage as well as beating Italy 2-0 in the round of 16.
England play Switzerland this afternoon at 5pm.
