For a long time, the landscape of English football was a rather homogeneous one. It was English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish players running around, mostly kicking and elbowing each other with the occasional piece of astounding skill.
In recent decades however that all began to change, with the influx of European, African, Asian and South American footballers injecting the domestic game with a vim and verve that it hadn't seen before.
