F***ing hell, we’re in a World Cup final
Words we haven’t been able to utter in footballing circles since 1966. Make no mistake about it, Sunday is one of the biggest days in the history of English football.
It’s almost weird to watch an England football team win like its normal. To watch them deal with every hurdle thrown in their way and cope with pressure like its nothing.
A World Cup semi final against the host nation in front of 75,000 fans, 99% of which were against England – and they won 3-1. No extra time, no penalties, no sending offs, no injuries.
This isn’t how England are meant to perform at World Cups. To quote a certain song, we’ve all grown up on the assumption that “England’s gonna throw it away, gonna blow it away.”
Not anymore.
Come on England – end the 57 years of hurt.
And maybe there’s some quizzing hurt you could bring to an end this week. A couple of months since your last 20+ score? What feels like an eternity since you last conquered the group chat with your score?
Time to put an end to that.
