Trump told he may be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize by world leader

It comes following a peace deal between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda being signed.

The USA recently helped DR Congo and Rwanda sign a peace deal after several decades of conflict, which has led to over 6,000,000 people being killed.

The deal, which Trump called a "big day for the world", will also allow American companies to gain access to critical minerals needed for much of the world’s technology.

The President of DR Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, wants Trump to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize a reporter told Trump.

The reporter said: "President Félix Tshisekedi is thinking of nominating you for the Nobel Peace Prize. You deserve it.

"You have been working to bring peace in the world, not only in the Congo, and he’s very hopeful to meet you in the future.

"Tshisekedi told me that for many years, American presidents have overlooked this conflict. They didn’t do anything."

Rwanda's conflict with DR Congo has been going on for over 30 years and  began shortly after the Rwandan genocide in 1994, which saw Hutu extremists murder more than 800,000 Tutsis.

As part of the deal, both sides would respect each other's territories and withdraw their forces. They would also facilitate the return of refugees and displaced persons to their homes.

Trump added that the US is getting "a lot of rights to" the minerals in DRC.

Previous winners - or laureates - of the Nobel Peace Prize include Malala, Barack Obama, John Hume, David Trimble and Nelson Mandela.
