Suella Braverman leaves job as the Home Secretary after only 43 days in the job

Suella Braverman has either been sacked or quit as Home Secretary

Braverman has departed as home secretary, according to a new report.

The news would be another huge blow to Prime Minister Liz Truss’s flailing government.

The news was first reported by The Guardian, which says ex-Transport Secretary Grant Shapps could be her replacement.

Minutes later, Ms Braverman shared her letter to the PM on Twitter confirming her departure is over “an honest mistake” surrounding sending an official document from her personal email.

She called the issue a ‘technical infringement of the rules’ and also added in questions about the direction of Liz Truss’ government.

She lasted only 43 days in her role.

This comes a week after  Ms Truss has ripped up her tax-slashing pledges and sacked her Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng, and faced calls to resigns from Tory MPs.

On Wednesday the Prime Minister also cancelled planned visits and No10 failed to give a specific explanation.

Just yesterday the ex-Home Secretary used a Commons appearance to launch an attack on “Tofu-eating wokerati” and a “coalition of chaos”.

Ms Braverman is a figure-head of the right of the Conservative Party and ran unsuccessfully to replace Boris Johnson as leader in the summer.

ITV’s Robert Peston tweeted: “Just to be clear, the Tory right already telling me Braverman has been stitched up by Truss.”

Ms Truss is in big political trouble after her disastrous mini-budget sent the markets into meltdown.

Former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng shouldered much of the blame when he was fired after just 38 days.
